The founding father of Green’s Feed and Seed, Mr. Earl Green, started out as a dealer for Altman’s Feed Company back in 1949. After 14 years, Altman’s went out of business.
In 1963, Earl and his wife Shirley started Greens Feed and Seed on Washington Street where the Greyhound bus terminal sits today. Green’s was at the Washington Street location until 1977.
In the same year, B and O railroad called and offered him the land where the store now sits. In 1992, the store expanded to the 15,000 square foot building we have today.
In 1998, the store was sold to Southern States and was under their corporate banner until 2001 when Earl bought the store back. Earl, His son Mike, and grandson Mike Jr. continued to run the business until October of 2021. It was then that Earl and Mike decided it was time to retire.
They sold the business to a team of highly motivated entrepreneurs who not only wanted to preserve what the Green family had worked so hard to build– but to expand on it as well. Today, we have a location in Ripley, WV with plans to build a brand new store there, while also giving the Charleston store a refreshing makeover. Please stop in and say “HI” to the new owners as well as our friendly and knowledgeable staff.
